Evolution Revolution: Mitsubishi Takes the Lancer Evo to China

TOKYO — Mitsubishi Motors said Tuesday that its Lancer Evolution will go on sale this fall in China after it anchors the automaker's display at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show next week. This marks the first time the high-performance Japanese compact will be available in all major global markets.

At the show, the Evo will be joined by other recent Mitsubishi concept and production vehicles, including the Concept-RA, the Prototype-S sport hatchback and the i MIEV electric minicar.

Mitsubishi said it is focusing on China as one of its key growth markets and plans to introduce six new models there over the next three years, including several that will be assembled with local partners, including Southeast Motors.

What this means to you: While its prospects in North America still seem unsettled, Mitsubishi anticipates China demand for its vehicles will continue to escalate at a steady clip. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
