- Mitsubishi's i MiEV will retail for $42,900 in Japan, but will only be available for lease.
- Japanese subsidies for electric vehicles lower the price by $12,300.
- The lease package includes 24/365 road service.
TOKYO — Mitsubishi said it will offer its battery-powered i MiEV to individual customers in Japan, starting April 1. The retail price will be $42,900, but the vehicle will be available only on a lease basis.
Mitsubishi has reduced the sticker by about $6,700 from what it has been charging fleet customers since it first began selling the i MiEV last July.
If the Japanese government continues its current subsidies on electric vehicles, domestic customers would receive an additional tax break of $12,300, lowering the final cost to $30,600.
The lease package includes 24/365 road service. The company also is planning to set EV charging stations at all its domestic-market sales outlets.
Mitsubishi said it has already delivered 1,400 i MiEVs to fleet, government and corporate customers. It has another 2,000 orders, including some from individuals. The automaker plans to deliver 4,000 i MiEVs this fiscal year in Japan and export another 5,000 to overseas markets.
Inside Line says: Look for the i MiEV to reach U.S. Mitsubishi dealers next year. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

I read the IF part, but that doesn't mean people won't get it for 30k, seeing as the Lease already started and the Tax program is still on while not sure if it's going to "continue"... "continue" usually indicates some measure of further advance in a certain matter.

The artical also says "IF the Japanese government continues its current subsidies on electric vehicles" . Perhaps, a re-read would aid you as well. "If" usually indicates some measure of doubt in the matter.

The article says 30k after the tax rebates, not 42k... Maybe you need to re-read the whole thing before posting garbage :-p
