Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart Concept
What's Special About It?
Mitsubishi's motorsports division, Ralliart, previously waved its performance wand over Mitsu's popular Lancer lineup, and now turns its attention to the staid Mitsubishi Galant sedan. The Galant Ralliart concept uses the same 260-horsepower, 3.8-iter MIVEC engine that will be available on the forthcoming 2006 Eclipse, packaged with the identical six-speed manual transmission. Additional mechanical modifications include a Ralliart exhaust, custom cold air intake system and coil-over springs suspension from Road Race Engineering, plus a rear stabilizer bar, front and rear strut braces and Brembo's four-piston brake kit on the front and custom cross-drilled rotors on the back.
For those who aren't looking for sleeper wheels, rest assured, the Galant's Ralliart treatment isn't limited to mechanical features. On the outside, PIAA driving lamps and a metal mesh grille are combined with custom front and rear fascias, side skirts and an integrated rear spoiler to provide a unique appearance — a look that's intensified by glowing tangerine orange show paint. The interior is custom Ralliart as well, with Recaro front seats, special carpet, a Ralliart shift knob and Logitech driving simulator steering wheel and pedal set. DLS speakers and amplifiers boost sound from the custom stereo system. The 19-inch Racing Hart F10 wheels with 245/40R19 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires complete the package.
What's Edmunds' Take?
Mitsubishi has worked hard to attract youthful buyers, as evidenced by the popularity of the Lancer Evolution. But kids grow up, and getting older doesn't mean you should be forced to drive your father's sedan. The Galant Ralliart concept, complete with a standard Recaro baby seat, offers new hope to the driving enthusiast turned family man. — Kelly Toepke
