What's special about it?
For 2002, Mitsubishi freshens up its flagship sedan. Up front, a new contoured hood wraps down into the front fascia and splits the grille opening into distinct halves. This design embodies a new look for the brand and will be featured on future Mitsubishi products. In the rear, the Diamante has a new decklid with a chrome license plate surround garnish and restyled taillights. In all other aspects, this car is the same as the 2001 model. At Mitsubishi's press conference, the company also said that a Diamante VR-X model will be offered in early 2002. This model will feature a sport suspension, more horsepower and sportier styling, though specifics weren't available.
Why should you care?
The near luxury sedan market contains a number of great cars. Unfortunately, the Diamante isn't one of them. This car needs more than styling to make it a true competitor in this class. -- Brent Romans
