The Japanese automaker says the Concept-C has more room on the inside, as well as greater performance potential and fuel-efficiency because of the placement of an electric motor in each of the vehicle's four wheels. Mitsubishi says it is actively developing this technology for possible use in future hybrids.
The company says the concept's design was inspired by the high-performance scooters popular in Japan. It was designed at the company's Cypress, California, studio. The rear doors open butterfly-style, without a center pillar. The concept is equipped with a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine and a 54-horsepower generator for a combined 134 hp.
What this means to you: Mitsubishi is working hard to inject some performance into its future hybrid lineup.
