- Mini releases official photos of the all-new 2012 Mini Coupe ahead of the two-seater's U.S. introduction this fall.
- Pricing has also been released, with the new standard coupe starting at $22,000, and the top-of-the-line John Cooper Works version at $31,900.
- Engines are essentially carried over from the Cooper lineup, with a 208-horsepower turbo 1.6-liter powering the JCW Coupe.
WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey — Mini has released official photos and pricing of the all-new 2012 Mini Coupe several months ahead of the car's U.S. introduction this fall.
The official photos follow the release earlier this month of official "teaser" shots of semi-disguised Mini Coupe pre-production prototypes.
In the U.S., the two-door will come in three trim levels — Cooper Coupe, Cooper S Coupe and John Cooper Works Coupe.
The base coupe starts at $22,000, with the mid-level S model coming in at $25,300, and the JCW topping out at $31,900. All prices include $700 shipping charges.
Mini also provided specifications on the Coupe. The brand's first-ever two-seater sits an inch lower than the Mini Cooper, but otherwise is virtually identical to its hatchback sibling in most exterior dimensions.
The range-topping Mini John Cooper Works Coupe gets a turbocharged 1.6-liter direct-injection four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual gearbox. Mini said the 208-horsepower engine enables 0-60 acceleration in 6.1 seconds, with speed topping out at 149 mph. That makes the JCW Coupe the "fastest-accelerating Mini ever (with) the highest top speed," the company said.
The basic Mini Coupe comes with standard electric power steering, dynamic stability control and park distance control. Among the options are adaptive headlamps and dynamic traction control with electronic differential lock control.
Inside Line says: Mini is working a serious pre-launch program for its new coupe, releasing a huge photo gallery several months before the new two-seater arrives this fall.

It doesn't look like it was designed for any logical segment. The "I Like Tiny Things" segment? Would any normal sized person wanting a 200+hp sport coupe be interested in buying this for 22-32k when they could have anything from a Honda Civic Si (21k) or Challenger (24k) to a BMW (30k)? I kinda doubt it.

With the resale I would buy it..
The Original Mini will never be remade due to safety issues remember why they stopped selling them here?

hmmm......
i dont think its UGLY....in fact i'm tired of all the comments on looks. apparently all us 'enthusiasts' here on insideline only know how to judge a book by its cover...i'm sure it drives wonderfully.
the problem is so does the regular mini. even in base form. with an automatic. and 15inch wheels.
how is this any more of a coupe than the regular two door? it makes zero sense.
this isnt an exercise in styling or expression...just an exercise in seeing which idiots with too much money they can convince to buy something so pointless. i'm all for being different, but it gets to the point where it becomes nothing but a vain exercise.
i'm not buying it bmw....not in the least.
are you guys on a mission to make the most un-mini mini possible? and i thought the countryman was going to take that cake.

These are some of the most entertaining comments I have read on Inside Line. Thanks.

@supacoopa:
You're a prime example of someone who "can't get it." Normal people want to look at the road and use the interior, not use the road and look at the interior. If you're one of the many who see the car as a fashion accessory or a status symbol first and something to be enjoyed in, of and for itself second, then I don't blame you. You'd probably buy the car to impress others than enjoy yourself. People like me, on the other hand, don't need to impress anybody. We just pay real, hard-earned money to enjoy ourselves and whatever it is that we buy.
So which one of us doesn't "get it?"

That roof looks like an ill-fitting toupee.

Lol. "Park distance control". If you can't park a Mini... you shouldn't be driving.

That car is simply hideous. Do they really expect to sell any of these? What were they thinking?

You're a prime example of someone who doesn't "get it". If you want an interior like everything else out there, then go buy something else. MINI's are iconic, and while I'm not as big a fan of the R56 as the R53's, retro is this car's entire theme, ergo the interior is retro as well. Get it?

All that aside, enough with the silly so-called "retro" interior already. It's been six decades, so get over it. How about a normal interior for normal people?"
