FRANKFURT, Germany — German automaker BMW and French automaker PSA Peugeot Citroën have extended their cooperative deal on four-cylinder engines and said they are looking into additional joint projects to achieve cost savings.
A new version of the Prince engine developed by the two firms is being designed to meet future EU6 emissions standards and, like the current engines, will be used in Mini, Peugeot and Citroën models.
The partners have produced 1.3 million engines since 2006. The Prince family includes 1.4- and 1.6-liter units in normally aspirated and turbocharged variants. The next application will be in the upcoming Mini Countryman.
