BMW Recalling 2009 Mini John Cooper Works and JCW Clubman

WASHINGTON — BMW is recalling 560 of its 2009 John Cooper Works and John Cooper Works Clubman vehicles equipped with 16-inch-diameter front brake discs because under "conditions of intense brake usage, braking performance would be reduced."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in its recalls summary pointed out that the affected vehicles have the 16-inch diameter, not 17-inch, front brake discs. "Depending on traffic and road conditions, as well as a driver's reactions, reduced brake performance could increase the risk of a crash," NHTSA said.

BMW, in other documentation, said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Dealers will inspect the front brake discs and pads on the affected Mini vehicles and replace them, if necessary. The recall is expected to begin sometime this month. Owners can contact BMW/Mini at (866) 275-6464 or by e-mail.

What this means to you: If you own one of the affected vehicles, have it checked out ASAP at your dealer. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
