2009 Mercury Mariner: This half-size Mazda-designed utility vehicle offers greater utility than your average crossover. For 2009 the Mariner now incorporates a 171-horsepower 2.5-liter inline-4 matched with a six-speed automatic transmission and it delivers better fuel economy than the former 2.3-liter inline-4. Meanwhile, a new 3.0-liter V6 produces 240 hp. The suspension has been retuned with revised damping plus a rear anti-sway bar, while electric power steering has been incorporated from the Mariner Hybrid. And just like its hybrid sibling, the standard Mariner features low-rolling-resistance 16-inch tires.
2009 Mercury Mariner Hybrid: The Mariner Hybrid continues to be a significant part of the Mariner model mix, accounting for 10 percent of overall sales. The 2009 Mariner Hybrid features the same updates as the standard Mariner (which itself now has some of the efficiency-enhancing hardware from the Mariner Hybrid). The most notable improvement is the adaptation of the new 171-hp inline-4 to the Mariner's hybrid powertrain. More refined electronic controls smooth the transition between full-electric and engine-driven motivation, while the transition between regenerative braking and mechanical braking (a weak point of most hybrids) also has reached new levels of refinement.
2009 Mercury Milan: Like the Ford Fusion and the Lincoln MKZ, the Milan is built on a stretched-wheelbase version of the previous-generation Mazda 6. Mechanically this front-wheel-drive car continues largely unchanged with its 2.3-liter inline-4 and 3.0-liter V6 engine choices, only now a five-speed automatic is finally available for the four-cylinder engine. Stability control is optional. There's a new palette of colors, including Brilliant Silver Clearcoat Metallic, Smokestone Clearcoat Metallic, Sport Blue Clearcoat Metallic, Tuxedo Black Clearcoat Metallic and White Platinum Clearcoat Tri-Coat. The big news is a new Voga edition, a Spanish word that signifies fashion and trend-setting. It features cashmere-color leather upholstery, chrome accents and chrome 17-inch wheels.
2009 Mercury Mountaineer: The Mountaineer is a traditional body-on-frame utility vehicle that can cope with outdoor adventures (like towing and off-roading) that would make a wimpy crossover wilt. It's notable for a longer list of standard features than the similar Ford Explorer and continues unchanged for 2009.
2009 Mercury Sable: This full-size front- and all-wheel-drive sedan companion to the Ford Taurus continues unchanged for 2009 with its standard 3.5-liter V6 and six-speed automatic transmission.
