    What are they?
2001 Mercury Grand Marquis Special Editions

    What's special about them?
Spurred by the best sales in a decade for its flagship sedan, the Grand Marquis, Mercury unleashes two new special edition models called the LSE and the Limited. On the outside, little differentiates these cars from lesser GS and LS versions, save standard lace-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels and some gold trim on the Limited model.

Inside the LSE, there is five-passenger leather seating with a center console and a floor-mounted shifter. A tuned suspension maximizes the balance between a smooth ride and decent handling. A dual exhaust system helps the LSE's 4.6-liter V8 make 235 horsepower, while the 3.27 rear axle ratio ensures that the Grand Mark gets up to speed as quickly as possible. Standard amenities include dual power front seats, automatic climate control and a load-leveling suspension. The LSE is priced at $28,295 and will be available this spring.

The Limited has a wood 'n' leather steering wheel, unique light parchment leather upholstery and embroidered "Limited" floor mats, along with automatic climate control. The Limited hasn't been priced yet, but will go on sale later this year.

    Why should you care?
Looking for a Lincoln but don't care to spend that kind of green on your next lean, mean, golf course-commuting machine? Get the Grand Marquis, like thousands of Floridians do each year. It's big enough to haul the neighbors to jai alai, it carries lots of stuff in its giant trunk, it's safe in a crash, and now, with the LSE and Limited, there are two fewer excuses to pass up this bestseller. — Christian Wardlaw
