BOTTROP, Germany — Brabus has unveiled its limited-edition E V12 Black Baron sedan. The car, based on the new 2010 Mercedes E-Class W212, may be the tuner's most aggressive kit yet.
Brabus transplants the 6.0-liter V12 twin-turbocharged engine from the S600 into the E-Class and bores it out to 6.3 liters. Performance modifications including a ram-air system, quad exhaust and retuned computer help bring output to 800 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque (although it is electronically limited to 811 lb-ft). A fully adjustable sport suspension, new stabilizers and a high-performance braking system were also added to the Mercedes executive sedan.
All that power means the blacked-out beast will make the run to 60 mph in less than 3.7 seconds and top out at an electronically limited 217 mph. Brabus says the car can make it to 230 mph if the limiter is deactivated.
Exterior changes include a revised front bumper, new front quarter-panels, more aggressive side skirts and rear wheel covers. A trunk-mounted spoiler, carbon-fiber rear diffuser and 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 255/35 front and 285/35 rear tires finish off the treatment.
The interior features black leather upholstery, an Alcantara headliner, a variety of carbon-fiber trim and a new speedo that goes all the way up to 250 mph.
Only 10 units of the Black Baron will be built, and prices start at $875,000.
Inside Line says: Although the Black Baron is quick, that big a price tag is usually only reserved for the most powerful hypercars. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
