ASCHAFFENBURG, Germany — Vath, the Bavarian tuning house that specializes in Mercedes-Benz upgrades, is cranking up the performance on the already-potent Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

Vath's V63S tuning kit bumps output on the AMG-tuned 6.2-liter V8 from 563 to 607 horsepower, with torque climbing from 479 to 502 pound-feet. The result is a slight increase in top speed, to 205 mph, with 0-60 acceleration trimmed to less than 3.6 seconds.

Vath fits high-performance brakes with slotted rotors and a high-performance exhaust system with a manually controlled pneumatic valve to alter the exhaust tone from the cockpit. A so-called "comfort suspension" drops ride height by 1 inch.

More aggressive rubber — 265/30ZR20s in front and 315/25ZR20s in the rear — is mounted on Vath's three-piece forged-alloy rims that can be painted titanium or any custom color.

A carbon-fiber aero body kit bundles a front lip spoiler, rear deck spoiler and side skirts. For the cockpit, customers can order a custom steering wheel in leather, wood or carbon fiber. Other options include a 400 km/h speedo, black-and-silver logo floormats and leather door trim.

The V63S tuning kit for the SLS AMG starts in Germany at $47,000.

Inside Line says: Figure on a Vath overhaul of the upcoming SLS Roadster in the not-too-distant future.
