    AFFALTERBACH, Germany — Mercedes-Benz said its new SLS AMG GT3, a track version of the gullwing sports car unveiled earlier this year at the 2010 New York Auto Show, is now available to order for delivery starting next February. Prices in Germany start at $430,190, or $511,925 with the exorbitant VAT included.

    The SLS AMG GT3 was developed by AMG and touring-car race partner HWA as a customer car for sprint and endurance races under FIA's GT3 regulations.

    The car currently is going through FIA's homologation process. As part of the racecar's ongoing test program, the SLS AMG GT3 will be entered in late September in the VLN race at the Nürburgring Nordschliefe.

    Thank you LostBoyz.  For everyone else, google the in-fighting between daimler and Chrysler upon completion of the MEFour-12 concept.

    Chrysler used off the shelf mercedes parts and in less than a year created a working supercar that blew away the slr and sls, which had been under developement for years and at the cost of well-over $500 million.

    Daimler quickly killed the project, as they did with all Chrysler car and truck develpement, and cheapened all the interiors, and canned all the engineers and design artist etc etc.

    @danwilson1 and tp660

    You are both incorrect. The next generation viper was in early development stages when daimler originally wanted to also use the platform for the SLS. They then canned the viper development and continued on with the platform. How much engineering done by either side is debatable, but it absolutely started its life as a viper.

    These "SLS = Viper" comments are getting old and frankly silly (stupid). The Viper platform and chassis played a part in developing the SLS, but that's it. Mercedes' simply used the Viper to test the components.

    Wait a second, Mercedes didn't really do much here. AMG - AMG designed and built this car and used the Viper to test components. That's how it should be stated.

    @colorado 1974: What are you talking about? The Viper bodyshell was only used as a disguise when this car was first being developed. Other than that, the Mercedes SLS has nothing in common with the Viper.

    I'm sure that somebody will buy one for GT3 racing but it will not be me.

    instead of this badge engineered Viper, you could buy a viper with better performance and have an extra $300,000 in your hip pocket.

    @cardesigner82 The Mercedes was designed so the doors can be released from ther inside, should the car flip over.

    That gullwing would be pretty hard to climb out of, if it were to roll over on the track. I think the spoiler is to create more downforce so you don't end up on the roof trying to figure out how in the hell you'd get out! Its still not as tall as that old Plymouth Roadrunner I think it was...HA! Talk about a tall spoiler!

    the spoiler is too big i dont care if its for aerodynamic purposes it makes the car taller!
