MONTVALE, New Jersey — The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class will get a raft of safety features, including a drowsiness detection system, a standard adaptive brake system and a head airbag, the automaker announced.
The German automaker continues to dribble out details on the SLK-Class. This week, it issued a lengthy primer on the vehicle's safety systems. The SLK-Class is expected to launch early next year.
One standard feature is "adaptive brake," which bundles antilock brakes, an acceleration skid control system and active yaw control. It helps in such situations as moving off on an incline by preventing the vehicle from rolling backward without having to keep the brakes applied continuously.
The SLK-Class will also get the "attention assist" drowsiness detection system. The system "can provide an early warning of overtiredness," said Mercedes-Benz in a statement.
The restraint system will feature a new "head bag," which provides lateral protection for the head in a crash. An additional thorax airbag in the seat back rest gives more protection in a side impact.
Options will include Distronic Plus proximity control and Pre-Safe Brake, features that are offered in other Mercedes-Benz models.
Inside Line says: The SLK-Class will be loaded with safety features — but we didn't expect anything less. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Wow, I wish my car had an active bonnet. This passive one is just not cutting it anymore.

Should be some nice safety items on the car. Hopefully they make a car that can compete this time.
