Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series Tuned Up to 1,000 HP by MKB

    Just the Facts:
    • German tuner MKB finds a way to get a claimed 1,000 hp out of the SL65 Black.
    • Oh, and did we mention the MKB P 1000 also makes a claimed 959 lb-ft of torque.
    • MKB claims zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and an 11.1-second quarter-mile time.

WINNENDEN, Germany — The tuning house called MKB has released a performance upgrade package for the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series.

The kit, known as "MKB P 1000," takes you from the SL65 Black's stock 661 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque to an even 1,000 hp (claimed, of course) and 959 lb-ft of torque. The extra everything in this SL65 comes courtesy of new air intakes, turbos, camshafts and cooling system and, of course, a recalibrated ECU.

MKB also tweaks the automatic transmission and wisely offers a few different rear axles (each with a limited-slip differential), depending on just how big a burnout you want.

Claimed acceleration figures stand at less than 3.6 seconds (down from the AMG division's claimed 3.8) for the 0-60-mph sprint and an 11.1-second quarter-mile. MKB estimates that one of its available final-drive ratios for the SL65 Black MKB P 1000 is capable of getting the car to a 230 mph, though the German tuner has not yet conducted a V-max run.

The conversion takes MKB three months to perform and will cost SL65 AMG Black Series owners the equivalent of $150,000, which includes 19 percent VAT.

How much power is too much, especially with 2WD

I agree with gam2.  I think it's prolly the limited traction that's "slowing" it down.  I'm guessing that 1,000 hp claim is prolly pretty close.

You should be running under 10 seconds at 140 mph with that kind of HP. Must be severely
traction limited or not making the claimed HP.

Another pointless/useless creation from ... (Please fill in the blanks yourself...)
Rather get the 911 turbo or one of the work of Arts (Aston V8 Vantage, DB9, or a slightly used DBS)

    On another note,
The SL is getting real (REALLY!) old...

Other than the tweeks on the front light and little elsewhere,
It's time for the ALL NEW SL, MB!!

p.s. was also looking at the new SLS with that comment both seem very disapointing from that perspective.

    but I could be wrong

I just cant see mercedes as a sports car manufacturer. Maybe fast luxury but not sports car.
I just want to know what kind of torque curve does the engine have what gear axle ratio's what are slowing these mercs down? when you consider the power to weight the machines have they should be faster?? an 11.1 1/4 mile seriously????? shouldnt this be in the low 10's or 9's with that much hp and torque.

I'd rather have an old Charger, Mustang, and GTO, and several other cars.

The last thing this car needed was more power.  WOW those rims are ugly.

I guess when you drop $300k down on a car, the $150k 339 hp gain is not such a shock. However, looking into the fish bowl, it seems kinda harsh! Lol
