STUTTGART, Germany — The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL, now undergoing pre-production testing, will be unveiled "before the year is out," with an all-new, lightweight aluminum body structure, plus two new high-tech systems that will debut on the redesigned roadster.
The new SL is the first Mercedes to feature the widespread application of aluminum, which reduces the weight of the body structure by nearly 250 pounds. In fact, Mercedes engineers have paid close attention to weight-saving techniques and materials, including the use of magnesium in the rear panel, while improving the car's overall structural rigidity.
Mercedes said the new SL will see the first application of its unique Magic Vision Control adaptive wiper/washer system. Magic Vision Control channels water to the windshield just in front of the wiper blade in the direction the wiper is moving, eliminating the usual spray and film.
Another system debuting on the new SL is the company's FrontBass audio, which uses the free spaces in the aluminum structure ahead of the footwells as resonance chambers for the bass loudspeakers, resulting in crisper bass and "a concert-hall ambience even with the top down," the company said.

If the SL is 250 pounds lighter and has the new 4.6 liter engine coming in the 550's now a days, it sure will be a nice ride to whip around. I'm interested.
