BOTTROP, Germany — Brabus is offering a performance upgrade kit for the Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec common-rail diesel that boosts power and torque, while still meeting the tougher Euro VI emission standards that don't go into effect until 2014.
Brabus' ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit hikes peak output to 308 horsepower and torque to 509 pound-feet on the 3.0-liter V6 CDI engine.
One unusual feature of the Brabus kit is tied to the selected shift mode of the 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission. When the gearbox is in Eco mode, standard engine output remains unchanged at 255 hp, but torque jumps to 509 lb-ft. When the transmission is shifted to Manual or Sport mode, power also climbs to 308 hp.
In Sport mode, the Brabus upgrade kit shaves half a second off the S350 Bluetec's 0-60 acceleration time, to less than 6.5 seconds. Top speed remains electronically governed at 155 miles per hour.
Brabus said the ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit also is available on the Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and CLS350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY.
The tuner offers a stainless-steel sport exhaust system with polished quad tailpipes as a complement to the engine performance kit.

This is pretty cool. Added performance but better economy. I kinda like the Mercedes diesels. If I were in the market for such a car, I'd def look into the diesel version of these sedans, such as the 3-series, E class, etc.
