InsideLine's spy photographers captured the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class testing in Germany. It's likely to keep the current car's 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 as the standard engine with V6 and hybrid powertrains also likely. The new S-Class will ride on an all-new platform that will also spawn the CL coupe and perhaps even a convertible. Judging by this prototype, it looks like the S-Class is adopting the more angular styling language found on recent Benz models with the grille noticeably more upright. The camouflage also could be hiding rear quarter flares similar to the CLS. As always, several innovations are likely for the S-Class including a revised COMAND system, advanced LED headlamps and an automatic suspension system that scans the road with cameras to anticipate and pre-adjust for bumps. Expect the next-generation Mercedes S-Class to appear next year.
