SHANGHAI, China — Mercedes-Benz had planned to pull the wraps off its face-lifted 2010 S-Class sedans, including the hotted-up AMG editions, next week at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show. But the managers of the company's German-market online configurator apparently got the go-ahead to reveal the cars a tad early, including the S63 AMG and the S65 AMG.
The styling isn't nearly as subtle as in previous years, although it may be difficult to spot many visual differences between the S63 and the S65, outside of grille work and exhaust tips. On both models, the front and rear styling has been updated, with new grilles and LED taillamps.
Engines and transmissions appear to be carried over with few significant changes. The normally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 in the S63 AMG makes 518 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to an AMG-modified seven-speed automatic transmission. The twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 delivers 604 hp and 738 lb-ft and is coupled with a five-speed automatic. Top speed in both models is governed to 155 mph.
