2000 Mercedes S600
FRANKFURT - Mercedes ups the luxury-sedan ante with its new S600. Powered by a 5.8-liter, V12 engine, the S600 features some of the latest Mercedes-Benz technology, including automatic cylinder cut-out, offset-phase dual ignition and three valves per cylinder. These innovations combine to produce 367 peak horsepower and a zero-to-60 acceleration time of 6.3 seconds. At the same time, however, the new V12 uses about 20 percent less fuel than the previous version.
Complimenting the S600's straight-line performance is the new Active Body Control system. This active suspension system can change the body-roll rate in a fraction of second to maintain stability when rounding corners or swerving at speed to avoid obstacles. Standard features like the COMAND driving system, a cellular phone, the Parktronic parking assist system and 17-inch wheels round out the S600's features.
