    What Is It?
    2006 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG

    What's Special About It?
Replacing the former force-fed AMG V8 is a naturally aspirated big-block V8 that sends even more ponies to the pavement. This 6.3-liter mill produces a staggering 510 horsepower in this application, making the ML63 the most powerful SUV on earth.

All that power is funneled to the four wheels through a seven-speed automatic that allows manual changes via buttons on the steering wheel. Zero-to-62-mph time is given as 5 seconds flat and top speed is electronically governed (like most Benz performance vehicles) to 155 mph.

More than just having a powerhouse motor, the ML63 will also feature an active suspension system that lowers the vehicle at high speeds, adding to stability when running down the autobahn. Letting everyone know that this is an AMG version are the requisite big wheels and tires (19-inchers wearing 295/45s), specific front and rear fascias and grille insert, darkened rear taillights and stainless steel running boards.

The cabin likewise receives upgrades in the form of multicontour sport seats, an AMG steering wheel, napa leather upholstery with Alcantara inserts and stainless steel sport pedals.

    What's Edmunds' Take?
Gee, was it that long ago when only Italian supercars hit 60 mph in 5 seconds flat? If you need an SUV with absolutely massive emphasis on the "Sport" portion of the abbreviation, it doesn't get much better than this. — John DiPietro
