BOTTROP, Germany — Just as the Mercedes-Benz GLK arrives in showrooms, Mercedes specialist tuner Brabus is offering complete modification packages that offer performance upgrades for all engines, new body styling, suspension upgrades and interior enhancements.

Engine tuning has squeezed an additional 48 horsepower from the diesel GLK, allowing the Benz to sprint to 60 mph in less than 6.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 142 mph. In the gasoline V6, Brabus has increased output by 15 hp. GLK owners can choose sport springs or opt for a complete suspension that offers a firmer ride. Both setups drop the GLK's ride height by about 1.4 inches.

A new front fascia incorporates LED daytime running lights and optional auxiliary high beams and foglamps. Brabus rocker panels grace the side of the GLK and feature LED lights to illuminate the ground when passengers are entering or exiting. The new rear apron can accommodate the stock exhaust pipes or Brabus' sport exhaust system with four outlets. There's also a new spoiler mounted to the top of the hatch. A number of wheels are available ranging from 17 to 21 inches.

Inside, Brabus offers illuminated, stainless steel sill plates, several steering wheel options and trim upgrades in wood or carbon fiber. Brabus will custom tailor the interior upholstery to buyers' tastes with a variety of colors, materials and designs. The seats can also be equipped with 7-inch seatback-mounted TV screens for passengers.

Inside Line says: Brabus' excellence in complete-package tuning continues with the GLK. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
