LAS VEGAS — Mercedes-Benz has released images of a quartet of 2008 SEMA Show cars based on its GLK crossover, which goes on sale in January.

Sketches of the GLK SEMA concepts were revealed in September. After SEMA, the vehicles head to the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The SEMA concepts, part of a tuner competition announced last April, include the RENNtech Rally Racer, said to be inspired by the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb; the Brabus Widestar, a wide-body edition of the GLK320 Bluetec; the Urban Whip by Florida-based Boulevard Customs, another wide-body design with 26-inch wheels and tires; and the Four Corners Rock Crawler by Legendary Motor Cars, designed to accommodate skate- and wakeboarders.

Inside Line says: Some mighty strange-looking permutations of the newest Mercedes crossover. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
