STUTTGART, Germany — Mercedes-Benz will roll out its emissions-reducing Bluetec diesel engines in Europe with the 2010 GL350 Bluetec 4MATIC. On European test cycles, the 3.0-liter diesel Bluetec returns 25.3 mpg.
In addition to its more efficient engine, the GL-Class improves fuel economy with lower-rolling-resistance tires, better aerodynamics and electrohydraulic power steering. At stops, the 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic shifts to neutral to reduce load on the engine and save fuel. Power in the Bluetec GL-Class is rated at 224 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.
The GL-Class also arrives in Europe with a revised grille, foglights and bumpers and a choice of 18- to 21-inch wheels. The interior gets a Napa leather steering wheel and new instruments along with optional ambient lighting. Mercedes is also offering two new exterior colors: Tenorite grey and Palladium silver.
The GL-Class will be joined in Europe by Bluetec versions of the ML-Class and R-Class.
