Engine tuning kits are available for the GL320 CDI and GL420 CDI turbodiesel models. The latter produces 345 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque and can run from zero to 60 mph in less than 7.1 seconds.
Brabus also offers its own 6.1-liter V8 in the GL450 and GL500 models, with output rated at 456 hp and torque at 454 lb-ft. Zero-to-60-mph acceleration takes less than 6.0 seconds, and top speed climbs to 158 mph.
Brabus has dropped the ride height by 1.2 inches with a modified version of the Airmatic air suspension. High-performance brakes are fitted, as is a stainless-steel sport exhaust system.
The 23-inch Monoblock E three-piece forged-alloy wheels can be shod with Pirelli or Yokohama performance tires. Brabus also offers Monoblock wheels in 21- and 22-inch sizes.
An aero body kit bundles a front apron with integrated foglamps and air intakes, rear apron with integrated diffuser and cutouts for quad tailpipes, rocker panels with integrated entry lamps and a roof spoiler. Fender flares add 2.0 inches to the body width.
The Widestar's cabin can be trimmed, according to the customer's taste, in leather or Alcantara, with stainless steel and aluminum accents. A full range of multimedia accessories is available.
What this means to you: The wide-body GL actually looks more menacing than its ML-Class counterpart.
