DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Saying it wants to "appeal to its large community of fans in the Gulf region," Mercedes-Benz on Tuesday introduced the 507-horsepower G55 AMG Kompressor Edition 79 at the 2009 Dubai Auto Show. The off-roader will be only offered in this part of the world, with no sales planned for the U.S., the automaker said in a statement.
Mercedes-Benz said it will limit the production run to just 79 units. Prices have not been announced.
The Edition 79, a reference to the sales start of the series in 1979, deviates from the standard model thanks to cosmetic changes. They include a front crash bar, carbon-look side trim strips, 19-inch AMG light alloy wheels in a titanium finish and chromed protective grilles for the front indictors, taillights and underguard. The cabin gets black/sand leather seats, carbon-fiber trim and the Edition logo "1 out of 79" in front of the selector lever.

still the best remaining engine from mercedes besides the SLR's 5.5. It just isn't as good without the supercharger that came with almost every V8 AMG...now its all american style big bore engines with no forced induction. :( I hate mercedes but the one that really cant be ignored (in my opinion) was the SL55. besides the corvette and a few others it pretty much paved the way for rediculus power hungry sports cars that were actually attainable unlike the SLR. So good job guys in charge of the G-class. keep with that 5.5.
