MONTVALE, New Jersey — Mercedes-Benz will bring the high-performance E63 AMG Wagon to the U.S. this fall as a 2012 model, complete with a new 518-horsepower 5.5-liter twin-turbo direct-injection V8 engine and seven-speed MCT gearbox.
For 2012, Mercedes-Benz also will offer the E350 4Matic Wagon with all-wheel drive and a new 302-hp direct-injection 3.5-liter V6 engine.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Wagon is slated to arrive at U.S. dealers in October, sharing basic drivetrain and underbody hardware with the E63 AMG sedan. An optional Performance package boosts output to 550 hp and inflates torque from 516 to 590 pound-feet.
The twin-turbo V8 gets stop/start technology to help enhance fuel economy and cut down on emissions. Also featured are new 19-inch AMG 10-spoke wheels and a standard panoramic roof.
In addition to its new V6 engine, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz E350 4Matic Wagon gets rear air suspension, electromechanical steering, a power tailgate and a third-row rear-facing seat.

I'll take one! Mercedes has to be laughing...not only do they have the standard E Wagon but will be bringing over the AMG wagon version as well. Now that BMW, Audi, and Volvo have been like lemmings in their rush to the exit door, MB will be the clear winner in the wagon platform. Kudos to MB management for having the foresight and clarity of purpose in staying the course.

Our 2005 E55 AMG wagon just turned over 80k and it remains our favourite vehicle of our "fleet". We've sworn that we'll keep this one forever (despite the lineup of people ready to buy it from us). Fun to drive, blows a lot of vehicles off the line - and is downright practical at the same time. Have driven it daily every winter with no fuss. The only thing I'd consider to replace it would be the E63 wagon, and up to this point the good news was that it would NOT appear in North America. Dammit!
My only worry is that they've de-tuned the growl that my 09 SL63 has.....

I love the wagons. There's an '08 S4 Avant wagon (black/black) for sale locally, low miles. Test drove it but 1) poor gas mileage compared to the '10+ S4s, 2) very tight back seat, and 3) was an auto. Good news was that the wife liked the new S4s better, so there's hope for me yet for a 2010 CPO S4 manual trans.
The pics of the euro B8 S4 Avant look amazing, especially if they made an RS4 version. I also like the CTS-V wagon, although you can't get a manual with AWD. And of course the E63 is pretty crazy too. Too bad BMW doesn't bring over the M5 estate, that would be awesome as well. All of these are way out of my price range new, but give it a couple of years of depreciation...

I 3rd eurocarlover19 and cjasis. Wagon > SUV. The X5 M and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo are silly looking. BMW M5 Touring and S6/RS6 Avant please.
The funny thing is that I have a 2002 Audi S6 Avant and it still turns heads after nine years. Manufacturers should realize that people who love to drive shouldn't be punished just because they start a family.

Dear Mercedes Benz,
OH THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I am reaching for my wallet and checkbook RIGHT NOW so that I may jump in my BMW, drive to my local Mercedes retailer, and put down a deposit right now!
I simply cannot wait to catch the occasional 911 napping in traffic so I can give the E63 Wagon some stick and blow the bug eyed front fascia right off the front one of those $90,000 VW Beetles!
In my heart I would prefer an opportunity to trade my current BMW for a new M5 Wagon. Unfortunately BMW has decided against selling the standard 5 Series wagon in the U.S. and in-spite of the freaky one-off parts runner El Camino M-3 Trucklet thing that BMW says it uses as a parts runner, I doubt they will ever relax enough to build and sell a M5 Wagon. This is on top of BMWs refusal to make the 1 Series M Coupe a regular M Model that anyone can buy versus the limited production specialty item that cannot be found in the U.S.
So yeah the Mercedes Benz E 63 Wagon, the ultimate sleeper, is one heck of a consolation prize. And I will count the days until I can start to practice my burnouts with one. Now if I can just sell my BMW without losing too much cash!
