WASHINGTON — In a small but significant action, Mercedes-Benz is recalling 41 copies of the 2011 E-Class because a part could fly out of the engine compartment during servicing, with the potential to injure bystanders, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"Insufficient adhesive between the vibration damper and its inner mass damper ring could cause a sudden separation of the inner mass damper ring from the vibration damper," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "While working in the engine compartment during engine operation, the damper ring could strike and injure the person repairing the vehicle or a bystander."
Mercedes-Benz told Inside Line on Wednesday that it has received no reports of accidents or injuries related to the recall.
Mercedes-Benz dealers will inspect and replace parts as necessary, said the automaker. The recall is expected to begin sometime this month. Owners can contact Mercedes-Benz at (800) 367-6372.
Inside Line says: If you own the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz E-Class, have it checked out with your dealer ASAP. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

What qualifies as recall. I think next time Volvo will recall its cars because you might slam your fingers in the door. Of course bystandards should be carefull around a car being serviced!

Wait a sec, exactly 41 2011 E-Klasse vehicles? As in 4/1/2011? Is this M-B's idea of an April Fool's Day joke? Come on, M-B, you can do better than that. The M3 pickup and M3 Royal Wedding Editions from Munich were so much more impressive...

Considering the number of mechanical failures that MB technicians have to service this could be potentially HUGE!!!
