Most of the design cues revealed here are fairly conventional, with a soft top, hard cover and a small wind deflector between the rear seats. However at speed, the E-Class Cabrio prototype displayed an additional feature that the current Mercedes CLK cabriolet lacks. What looks to be an auxiliary wind deflector has been placed at the top of the windshield to raise the flow above occupants' heads.
The E-Class convertible follows on the heels of the all-new 2010 E-Class Coupe, which debuted earlier this year at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.
The cabrio is expected to share the majority of the coupe's mechanicals, including a 292-horsepower direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 for the E350 and a 388-hp 5.5-liter V8 in the E550. Each comes mated to Mercedes' seven-speed automatic transmission.
