N.Y. Show: 2007 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Debuts

NEW YORK — Mercedes-Benz of North America is offering show goers here their first glimpse of the 2007 E-Class sedan and wagon, which gets a modest face-lift and adds new variants this fall.

Among them is the 2007 E63 AMG, which is making its world debut at the show.

The E63 AMG is powered by a normally aspirated 6.3-liter V8 that was displayed at the Geneva Motor Show last month in the CLS63 AMG. In U.S. trim, the engine delivers 503 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. The E63 AMG will be offered in both sedan and wagon variants.

The new E550, which replaces last year's E500, shares its DOHC 5.5-liter V8 and seven-speed transmission with the larger S550. The engine makes 382 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque.

Visual changes on the E-Class are relatively minor, with new bumpers and revised grille and headlamps among the more notable changes. The cabin also receives a mild upgrade.

What this means to you: A modest makeover for the E-Class includes some additional displacement and horses.
