Mercedes-Benz Drops Price on 2012 CLS-Class

    Just the Facts:
    • The redesigned 2012 CLS550 starts at $72K; the CLS63 AMG comes in at $95,775.
    • The 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 costs $4,150 less than its predecessor.
    • Both 2012 CLS-Class four-doors reach U.S. dealerships this summer.

    MONTVALE, New Jersey — Mercedes-Benz said its redesigned 2012 CLS550 will be priced from $72,175 (including an $875 destination charge), while the 2012 CLS63 AMG will start at $95,775. The 2012 Mercedes CLS550 is $2,700 cheaper than the 2011 CLS550, while the 2012 CLS63 is $4,150 less expensive than before.

    Both CLS-Class models are slated to arrive this summer at U.S. dealers and feature new twin-turbocharged and direct-injected V8 engines.

    The 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG shares its 518-horsepower, twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 (550 hp with the optional AMG Performance package) with the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG coupe. The forced-induction engine replaces the normally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 that powered its predecessor.

    The 4.6-liter V8 in the CLS550 is rated at 402 hp and 443 pound-feet of torque. Both CLS models have a seven-speed automatic transmission driving their rear wheels; however, the CLS63 gets Mercedes' Speedshift MCT automatic, which trades the usual torque converter for a clutch pack in an oil bath — resulting in faster shift times and reduced fuel consumption.

    Inside Line says: We'll miss the big 6.2-liter V8 from the 2011 CLS63 AMG, but a $4,000 savings should help soften the blow. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

    What a stupid comment. Design is subjective and the price of a vehicle has never been linked to the design of a car. Never.

    Um . . . where'd my previous comment go?  As I was saying, the Euro spec version of the car looks SO much better WITHOUT the stupid fender sills.

    See what I mean? No skirts on the Euro version:

    Striking, yes. Beautiful? Elegant?  Not so much.

    This car looks AMAZING.  Light years better then that disgusting BMW 5 series GT, or Audi humpback A7. BD  Don't pass judgement on a car, until you see it in person/on the roads.

    @blackdynamite0

    A free game?  Wthell are you talking about?  People who want free games as an incentive shouldn't even bother looking at luxury cars for grown men.  They should settle for the used car lot, where they can grab yesteryear's P.O.S. ride, and "pimp" it out with 20" inch chrome wheels, lcd monitors wherever they can stick it in, and an entertainment system that's bound to be outdated.  Games?  Please don't confuse Mercedes-Benz with your local gamestop.

    That amount of ugliness should come with a Free Game!
