HOLLYWOOD, California — The 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Fashion Force vehicle — the German automaker's equivalent of the fashion police — has been deployed here ahead of Sunday's 83rd Annual Academy Awards ceremony.
Outfitted like a traditional police car in black-and-white livery with a shield emblazoned on the side, the CLS63 AMG crew is handing out invitations to a Mercedes-Benz Oscar viewing party and "rewarding stylesetters with a ride to their next destination," said the automaker in a statement on Thursday.
The Fashion Force will be prowling the area through Sunday and can be followed on Twitter at #FashionForce.
Automakers are trying different approaches to steal some of the limelight from the stars at the Academy Awards. Hyundai is likely to be the dominant advertiser during the ceremony this year, with a total of nine ads planned before and during the event. They include commercials for the Hyundai Genesis and Elantra.
The Fashion Force vehicle did a recent East Coast stint during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

The latest CLS looks alot better WITHOUT the AMG cladding. Too bad Mercedes only ever uses it in its European marketing. This makes it look even worse. Neat idea. Poor execution.
