STUTTGART, Germany — Mercedes-Benz on Thursday showed off a special edition of the CL coupe that celebrates the 100th birthday of the Mercedes three-pointed star and the Benz emblem.
Mercedes-Benz spokesman Rob Moran told Inside Line that arrivals of this special edition will begin in August in the U.S. He said only 50 units of the vehicle are earmarked for this market.
"Price is not finalized," he noted in an e-mail to Inside Line.
The appearance package bundles such items as a new AMG Sports package with front and rear aprons, side skirts and sports pedals, 20-inch AMG light alloy wheels, and copies of the original trademarks inset into the center console.
The package makes its debut in late June in Europe and adds the equivalent of $23,230 to the car's bottom line overseas.
Mercedes-Benz is celebrating the centennial dating from June 24, 1909, when Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft registered the design of the Mercedes star, as well as August 6, 1909, when August Benz and company registered the name "Benz," enclosed by a laurel wreath, with Germany's Imperial Patent Office.
Inside Line says: If labels — especially the Mercedes kind — are important to you, this may be a must-have vehicle. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
