Tuner Special: RENNtech PKG365

LAKE PARK, Florida — Mercedes guru Hartmut Feyhl, mastermind of RENNtech, was born in Affalterbach, Germany, and cut his performance teeth at AMG, eventually serving as the tuner's North American technical director.

Having established his own tuning shop in Palm Beach County in 1989, Feyhl now practices the automotive black arts for a distinguished clientele that includes such celebrity car nuts as Jerry Seinfeld, Sylvester Stallone, Alan Jackson, Ken Griffey, Jr. and Steven Tyler.

The latest package from his RENNtech operation is dubbed 365, denoting a Stage 3 kit for the latest 65-series AMG cars from Mercedes-Benz, including the 2008 CL65 AMG, S65 AMG and SL65 AMG.

With RENNtech's software and hardware mods, the twin-turbocharged V12 is pumped up to 695 horsepower and 890 pound-feet of torque. The biggest change is a reworked ECU, which Feyhl says "gives customers more power and better drivability in a way that is more reliable, [with a] smoother power curve, and even improves emissions and gas mileage."

Hardware upgrades include a larger intercooler pump and a secondary heat exchanger, as well as a pair of carbon-fiber air boxes to improve cool air flow into the engine. RENNtech also adds a pair of stainless-steel sport mufflers.

The PKG365 kit costs $18,990, plus installation.
