MONTVALE, New Jersey — Look for the exclusive AMG badge on at least a dozen U.S. models from Mercedes-Benz in the coming year, including the redesigned 2012 CLS63 AMG in June and the new 2012 C63 AMG Coupe in September.
In addition to the all-new SLS AMG Roadster that is slated to arrive at U.S. dealers in late 2011, Mercedes-Benz is offering high-performance AMG editions of several redesigned models for 2012, as well as improved versions of current AMG models.
The new 2012 C63 AMG Coupe is powered by a normally aspirated 6.3-liter V8 that develops 451 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque and is mated to an AMG seven-speed MCT gearbox. An optional AMG Development Package kicks output up to 481 hp.
The C63 AMG Sedan, which also arrives in September, has been modestly restyled, with a new interior, and shares its powertrain with the C63 AMG Coupe.
The redesigned 2012 CLS63 AMG made its U.S. debut last fall at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show and should reach showrooms in June. It features a new direct-injection 5.5-liter biturbo AMG V8 that makes 518 hp and 516 lb-ft; an optional Performance package increases those values to 550 hp and 590 lb-ft.
The same engine and AMG seven-speed MCT are featured in the 2012 E63 AMG Sedan and Wagon, which go on sale in October.
The big S-Class sedan, which arrives in June, will be available once again in two AMG editions for 2012 — the S63 AMG and the flagship S65 AMG, which carries over its 621-hp twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12. The 2012 S63 AMG gets a more potent version of the twin-turbo 5.5-liter direct-injection V8, rated at 536 hp and 590 lb-ft, mated to the AMG seven-speed MCT. An optional Performance package pumps up the numbers to 563 hp and 664 lb-ft.
The same two engines are featured in the 2012 CL63 AMG and CL65 AMG coupes, which go on sale in July.
The 2012 SL63 AMG roadster carries over its 6.3-liter V8, which delivers 518 hp and 465 lb-ft and is coupled with the AMG seven-speed MCT.

I'm sorry, what am I missing? AMG has offered a "broad range of models" for the last half decade, at least. Why this headline now?
