- The upgraded 6.2-liter V8 delivers 510 horsepower compared to 451 horses in the standard C63 coupe.
- To save weight, the C63 Black Series uses an aluminum hood, plastic front fenders and no rear seats.
- AMG claims that the C63 Black Series can go from zero to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds.
STUTTGART, Germany — Mercedes-Benz has announced the addition of a fourth model to its ultra-exclusive "Black Series" roster. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series coupe will join the company's lineup in the spring of 2012. AMG officials confirmed that this model augments the already announced C63 AMG coupe and sedan, but notes that the sedan body style will not be available in Black Series trim "because Black Series cars have no more than two doors."
It wouldn't be a Black Series without more power, so AMG gave the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 a serious twist. Output goes from the standard C63's 451 horsepower up to 510 hp. Some of the power comes from more aggressive engine calibration, for sure, but the rest is courtesy of several internal engine components borrowed from the gullwing SLS. AMG caps the whole thing with a Black Series spec exhaust system that's downright loud for a street car.
As expected, there will be no manual transmission. Instead, all C63 Black Series coupes will use AMG's Speedshift MCT (multiple-clutch transmission) seven-speed multimode automatic. There's still a manual mode, though, and standard shift paddles. AMG says the C63 Black Series will go from zero to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds.
Carbon-ceramic brakes will not be part of the package. They hardly seem necessary, as the standard setup uses iron rotors running on aluminum hats/hubs that are designed to maximize the distribution and shedding of heat.
One element of the Black Series' performance advantage over the "base" C63 comes in the form of weight reduction. The hood is aluminum while the front fenders are made of lightweight plastic composite material. If you really want to go all out with the DTM look there's an optional rear wing that mounts on stanchions at the rear of the trunk and sits several inches above the deck lid surface. Another weight saver is the dispensing of the rear seat (although you can have one as a no-cost option).
The C63 AMG Black Series will be offered in black, silver, red, matte silver, matte white or matte black. U.S. pricing has yet to be announced, but it'll run 97,000 Euros in Europe, and goes on sale here next March.
Inside Line says: A suitably powerful addition to the Black Series lineup that should put all those special-edition M3s on notice.

I like it, it is crude in a way. Reminds me of not of precision engineering to slice and dice curvy roads but it is like hammer that crushes the burnouts and donuts, i think it is the modern interpretation of a german muscle car. Its got the power, SOUND, and animal character.

4.2 seconds to 62..... I can do that in a Dodge Challenger too. They should probably concentrate on the knockout looks and insanely advanced computer controlled suspension etc. I too would probably choose a CTS-V. An already powerful car with plenty of modifications available that aren't Mercedes expensive. Oh, and I'd have change left. If I only had money to start off with....

I want one. Enough with the "no manual gearbox" comments already. If you want to drive this car fast, you are definitely going to need some skill. This is a serious car, just look at that interior. . . . I can't even find the words to describe it!!!

Turn more heads with a cts-v i guess. who said the cadillac will turn more heads? that person is straight nuts!
THis is a special car for a special person. Is the car worth that performance? Probably not if your going for value. But then again thats what separates the wallets. If you got it then get it if not then dont. I see all these people see for the value bang for the buck ill get this over that then go do it. Mercedes makes more money over sees then they do in the USA im here to tell you. Dubai, doha qatar, Uk, Russia. Mercedes, Great example with aston martin and Alfa romeo for the ones who have the finances. If you want value then thats where Nissan gtr kicks in, some porsches, M3 from Bimmer. Cts-V kicks in for bang for the buck. Or hell even The lancer Evo with A few audis. Every class of cars have a different taste for everyone. Not everyone wants the Bang for the buck. SOme want class and heritage

Automatics on plebian vehicles is something I actually like.
However, the idea of a potential owner of this car going "now watch me hit the gas...isn't that awesome? now, check this out - when I hit this button, it shifts! I'm such a great driver!"
I know I'm being a little dramatic but, this is a car for tooling around various big cities and showing everyone your "race car."

Pretty sick car but for me a cts-v coupe makes a better case. It has rear seats, is more luxurious, has more power, and will turn more heads.
