MONTVALE, New Jersey — Mercedes-Benz said its new 2012 C63 AMG Coupe will arrive at U.S. dealers in September.

The latest addition to the German automaker's ever-expanding stable of AMG performance models shares much of its go-fast hardware with the 2012 C63 AMG Sedan, which gets a face-lift and some tech upgrades when it debuts stateside this summer.

The basic engine in both C63 AMG models is the familiar AMG-tuned 6.2-liter V8, which delivers 451 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. An optional performance package pushes output to 481 hp. With that package, top speed climbs from 155 mph to 174 mph, and 0-60 acceleration is trimmed from 4.4 to 4.3 seconds. Both cars also feature AMG's Speedshift MCT seven-speed gearbox.

The new C63 AMG Coupe has wider front and rear tracks, with stiffer spring and damper rates, a high-performance braking system with ventilated and perforated discs, and speed-sensitive sport steering. The car rides on new 18-inch AMG alloy wheels painted titanium gray with 235/40R18 front tires and 255/35R18 rears.

The exterior has been dressed up with new front and rear aprons, a new grille, clear-lens headlamps, side sills, a "powerdome" hood and a deck lid spoiler.

The cockpit of the C63 AMG Coupe is equally arresting, with a three-dial AMG gauge cluster, a flattened sport steering wheel with multifunction buttons and paddle shifters, sport seats offered in a choice of leather or a new breathable manmade fabric, and a choice of piano-black lacquer, aluminum, carbon fiber or wood accents and trim.

Inside Line says: The C63 AMG Coupe stands up well in the looks department alongside its larger two-door sibs. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Need to see this one in person, but I passed by the C-class last time because I wanted a coupe (bought Audi). I'm glad to see this and will definitely visit the Merc dealer next time I'm in the market for four-seater.

Awesome. I'd prolly take this over an M3. Still like the Sedan better, though.

Vinyl Seats.  And no, leather doesn't wear out fast, if you use good leather.  My 2005 Jaguar with 80k miles on it has seats that look as good as new.  My 1992 Mustang convertible however, does have some aging after 20 years I guess.

I've driven the c63 sedan, that car is insane.  A burnout machine, in the corners the back end just wants to stay out there.  Fun car to drive.

does not look like they even tried to make it lighter, still v8?? thought they would go with turboed 6 for the times, and no word about a manual option.  rims look after market cheap.  seats look like Mustang seats though i'm sure they're nicer.

I can't wait for the comparo. This looks a lot like an M3. I'll be interested to see if it turns like one finally. I've wanted an little AMG since the C32, but never pulled the trigger.

No, this thing is CLEAN. It's what an AMG should look like.

Why does this thing look like an E350 coupe with cheap aftermarket black wheels? Love the interior and the performance package but it doesn't look as good as the sedan IMO.

It screams "BMW 3 AMG" in proportion. but it's not a bad thing I guess. just one thing thuogh, a proper M3 fighter
