Mercedes-Benz C350 Autographed by Amy Winehouse Hits the Auction Block

LONDON/STUTTGART, Germany — Even if you have no intention of bidding on the new Mercedes-Benz C350 that will go up for auction to benefit Nelson Mandela's 46664 foundation, the photographs of celebrities autographing the car are worth a look.

A jaunty-looking Amy Winehouse, with her platform heels and Marge Simpson-ish towering hair, is perched on the sedan in one memorable image. Tennis legend Boris Becker, who serves as a brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz, gets ready to leave his mark on another.

The donation of the autographed car was part of anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday celebration over the weekend in London's Hyde Park. The vehicle was also autographed by Vodafone Mercedes-Benz driver Lewis Hamilton, along with Quincy Jones, Annie Lennox and Peter Gabriel.

The auction of the car will raise funds for Mandela's 46664 campaign against HIV/AIDS. As of Monday morning, there was no word on Mandela's Web site about when the car will go up for auction. The 46664 number refers to Mandela's prisoner number during his detainment.

What this means to you: Leave it to Mercedes-Benz to come up with one of the more interesting celebrity car auctions in recent memory. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
