SEALY, Texas — John Hennessey's new HPE800 Twin Turbo kit manages to wring an additional 200-plus ponies from the formidable McLaren MP4-12C — a remarkable feat considering the factory job already produces 592 horsepower from its blown 3.8-liter V8.

Hennessey Performance Engineering extracts more than 800 hp from the same engine, after upgrading the turbos, intercooler, intake and ECU, then fitting a titanium exhaust system.

Also bundled with the HPE800 Twin Turbo package is a carbon-fiber aero kit, including a new front air inlet and hood extractor to increase cooling.

Hennessey fits its own Monoblock wheels and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, but hasn't touched the suspension or brakes on the McLaren because "the factory systems will be difficult to improve upon."

Says the founder: "I spent a lot of time around the new 12C at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed and was very impressed. We're excited to have the opportunity to take a great car and give it our own special performance touch while giving 12C owners a uniquely aggressive appearance."

Hennessey also will offer an interior upgrade on the car, with generous applications of leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber.

Inside Line says: HPE hasn't released pricing yet, but plans to offer the HPE800 Twin Turbo upgrade as a full package, as well as individual components.

Will they also provide a replacement engine when it blows? Hard working engineers have worked day and night finding the optimum power range and this guy thinks he can add bolt-ons to any supercar. Funny stuff. The guy's a hack and a simple google search will show customers angry that he ruined their cars.

That's some sketchy engineering right there.

What kind of an a-hole takes a "supercar" and tries to modify it.
Some cars don't need anything done to them, especially a car like the McLaren.

So Hennessey extracted 200 HP from a car that has been tuned and tested for years at the speed that its rated at? How does this dude stay in business cause I can't see anybody in their right mind buying his cars.

Hennessey is a hack!  Any (and nearly every!) new car that comes out he instantly can pull significantly more horsepower out of, he should focus on 1 or 2 particular models and spend some more research and development time.  I knew someone that had bought a Hennessey GT-R and had nothing but issues and i've heard the same from other people with different brands that he also "enhanced" for them.

If you really wanted a hotted up McLaren why wouldn't you just wait for their own car which is in the pipeline?  Interior upgrades?  Have you been to McLaren's site and seen how you can customize the interior?

I will say that it adds some visual excitement to the design.

I think that some of  the other Hennessey product is quite cool and brings something new to the table, but clearly I am not the target market for this car.  I really don't really see the point of this.

"hasn't touched the suspension or brakes on the McLaren because "the factory systems will be difficult to improve upon."

So Hennessey adds 200 HP, but doesn't improve braking? Pretty thorough R&D..
