HIROSHIMA, Japan — Details are scant, but visitors to the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show next month should keep an eye peeled for the Mazda MX-5 Superlight, a concept version of the Japanese automaker's evergreen roadster that promises to deliver "improved driving performance, handling, fuel economy and CO2 emissions."
Designed at the firm's European design studio in Oberursel, Germany, the MX-5 Superlight is described by the company as "a pure show car." Indeed, the Superlight does without a traditional windshield and features such aero touches as individual faired-in roll bars, which means production is unlikely.
In Japan, Mazda has just released a special anniversary edition of its bestselling two-seater.
