    Just the Facts:
    • Mazda teases a pair of SEMA-bound sportsters.
    • Images — but not much information — were posted on the automaker's Twitter and Flickr feeds.
    • Regarding the Turbo2, Mazda teased: "One of our most powerful turbocharged engines in our lightest platform. Nuff said!"

LAS VEGAS — Unlike many of its competitors, Mazda has taken a more circumspect approach to unveiling its 2011 SEMA Show-bound sportsters ahead of next week's event. On its Twitter feed, the automaker posted links to single images of the MX-5 Spyder and the Turbo2 on its Flickr page, with the sketchiest information on each.

Mazda said of the MX-5 Spyder: "A new, more aggressive look for the world's favorite convertible."

Regarding the Turbo2, Mazda teased: "One of our most powerful turbocharged engines in our lightest platform. Nuff said!"

The Twitter link wasn't more forthcoming, noting: "One's green and the other comes in green."

From what we can ascertain from the images, the MX-5 Spyder gets a minimalist exterior, with a hard tonneau and a skimpy red bikini-style canvas top replacing the current folding top. A new front fascia has larger air intakes and a revised spoiler. The car sits lower, and red Brembo calipers peek out from behind multispoke alloys. No word on what's under the silver skin.

The Turbo2 hatchback is a bit jazzier, with white exterior paint and wild green and yellow graphics, including a huge Mazdaspeed decal above the windshield.

We see 10-spoke matte-finish alloy rims, low-profile rubber, an aggressive front fascia with chin spoilers, side skirts and an oversize ducktail spoiler.

Inside Line says: Expect the full details to be revealed next Tuesday on the SEMA show floor.

I love how he gets more and more excited talking about a little car with a GREAT BIG ENGINE.  Anything that makes a car expert that excited, has to be a good idea.

Why do they put tents on cars now?

If Mazda would only turbocharge the MX5 they would have a real winner. It could be a true Boxter killer.

I really like the idea of a MX-5 spider with a more aggressive look and a but of power will fill the gap the S2000 left.

I am sure that in terms of handling and style will be a nice competitor of the new scion.-  Both are different  coupe vs spider but in price and performance will compete for the same buyers.

Besides Mazda brand will appeal more buyers than Scion.

Please produce the Mazda2 (sans the spoiler or ground effects)... if so, sold!

It's a Mazda Speed2 the only one in the world built and raced by The Autobarn Mazda of Countryside. Car is a Mazda2 sport base with a 2010 Mazda Speed3 drivetrain with a built bottom end by Cp-e and suspension by Corksport. Car took us 4 m...onths to build and we raced it across the country in Brock Yates Jr. One Lap of America. Drivers Eric Vates and Charles Espenlaub drove the car 3800 Miles cross country in the Compact car division. The car is on loan to Mazda R&D for the 2011 SEMA show
