2009 Mazda 6 Recalled for Door Latch Problem

    0 Ratings
WASHINGTON — Mazda said it is recalling 29,000 of its 2009 Mazda 6 sedans because the outer door handles may stick, which may prevent the door from latching, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"This situation may allow the door to open while the vehicle is in motion," according to NHTSA's recall summary of the problem. "Driving with the door unlatched could lead to an unbelted occupant being ejected and could result in death or injury."

Mazda dealers will inspect the door handles and, if necessary, repair or replace the handles. In other documentation filed with the federal government, Mazda explains that the problem is due to "inconsistent dimension combination between the outer door handles and its brackets."

The recall started on February 13. Owners can contact Mazda at (800) 222-5500.

Inside Line says: If you own one of the aforementioned Mazda 6 sedans, have it checked out ASAP with your dealer. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
