LONG BEACH, California — TV star Patrick Dempsey will step away from his traditional Mazda RX-8 and drive a 2010 Mazda 3 in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach World Challenge event. Dempsey will be promoting his charitable organization, the Dempsey Challenge. He pilots an RX-8 in the Rolex Grand-Am GT series and has been racing since the mid-1990s.
Dempsey's 2010 Mazda 3 is prepared by Tri-Point Motorsports for the World Challenge event, which includes production-based racing cars in GT, GTS and TC2 classes. Dempsey's car will be entered in the GTS class. Of the Tri-Point Mazda 3, Dempsey commented: "I've never driven a front-wheel-drive racecar that handled that well before. I shouldn't have been surprised, though, as my daily driver is a Mazdaspeed 3."
The event takes place on Sunday, April 16, part of the Grand Prix festivities from April 16-18.

"...my daily driver is a Mazdaspeed 3."
Well, that's because Mazda is paying you big bucks to drive it instead of your 911GT3!
