The Kazamai is part of what Mazda calls its "Sustainable Zoom-Zoom" technology goal, adding safety and environmental stewardship to its mission of sporty driving fun. The name "Kazamai" is Japanese for "swirling crosswinds." Its lightweight body and flowing design are intended to give an impression of "visual lightness." The Kazamai would have low CO2 emissions, frugal gas mileage and exciting driving dynamics if it were a production model, Mazda says.
The Kazamai has a four-wheel-drive powertrain, a newly developed transmission and a "next generation" direct injection engine.
The Kazamai, Mazda says, signals the company's future direction for a compact crossover vehicle. It was chosen for a debut at the Moscow show in deference to the popularity of compact SUVs in Russia, where they make up about 13 percent of new-vehicle sales.
What this means to you: Developing more environmentally friendly (and prettier) crossover vehicles is a good priority to have. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
