HIROSHIMA, Japan — Mazda will debut its Takeri, a next-generation midsize sedan concept, at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show in November. It gives onlookers their first peek at what's expected to be the redesigned Mazda 6, which will appear in early 2013.

Mazda also will unveil the new CX-5 crossover SUV.

Both are equipped with the full array of Mazda's breakthrough Skyactiv fuel-saving technology, which includes the Skyactiv-D clean diesel engine, the new six-speed automatic transmission, a new body and chassis framework and an engine idle-stop system.

The Takeri is also the first Mazda equipped with regenerative braking.

The look of the Takeri is expected to turn heads as well. Using Mazda's new design inspiration, "Kodo - Soul of Motion," the car sports voluptuous curves, big wheels and a rounded nose, bringing a new level of allure to Mazda's sedan styling.

Inside Line says: As with all show concepts, the most interesting part of the Takeri exercise will be waiting to see what elements make it to production.

Its not about nationalism. Historicaly Japanese products have the best quality and durability worldwide. That is proven. No wonder Japan is caled "World's workshop". Any product with Original Japanese design have more fans and admirers than any other country product in terms of design and durability.
Japanese industrial design are adorable, have purity, simplicity even if it is electronics, automobile or any other consumar product.  Korea, China, Taiwan have started as imitations of legendary Japanese products and they have improved in the process( even hyundai Daewo and Kia). but they never can really match.
However North American Models for Japanese automobile companies have diluted their original design spirit or "americanized" that has proved many failures.

I know you don't have a good taste about design.  It is not a crime.  I know you are Korean and loves all Korean cars, but it is not about nationalism.  It is about design.   Kia Optima is great looking car, but  Sonata is not.  I would say designers took a challenging approach to family sedan, but it is not a good looking car.  It looks like a giant squid.

This is a great looking design. Especially in the wine red color. not being too flashy with serious or mature design language. This is a good example of design with a class or design which ebmodies the feeling of quality. Also this design theme is close to BMW and Honda designs.

Other comments compares to Sonata. The problem  with sonata and other koren companies is that, though the cars looks flashy with lot of decorations with Crome and creeses the whole design language lacks the class. or the feeling of quality. whole Hyndai designs are prone to design decay after a while. Where an acura design won't decay after 20 years. Any way it same as what we feel when we see the label "Made in Japan" and "Made in Korea" or "China". That is it..

@ igo1 "Maybe so, but this one is executed much better than the ugly Sonata"

hey superstar, this is a CONCEPT.  Why don't we leave the judgement until AFTER a production version is unveiled...we know how some models tend to get watered down when wearing street clothes.  In any case, from what we have in dealerships now, the Sonata a much better looking vehicle than the current Mazda5 imo, both outside and especially inside..

The rear looks like Sonata's rear compressed vertically.

Mazda makes great handling cars, but now their only RWD is the Miata.  Come on Mazda...make something like this in RWD and out-gun the 3-series, but for a lot less money and a lot more reliability.  I'd gladly trade my 335i for a Mazda that performed at least as well.

how come the futuristic seats never make it into production models?

It looks excellent and better than predecessor as all Mazda6's have been. I just hope they don't put a fake exhaust tip on the V6 model like last time.
