- Mazda will provide Nissan in Japan with a version of the Premacy.
- The Premacy is sold in North America as the Mazda 5.
- The deal is an extension of a long-term product-sharing agreement between the two companies.
HIROSHIMA, Japan — In an extension of a long-term product-sharing agreement between the two companies, Mazda said it will provide Nissan in Japan with a version of the Premacy. The compact van is sold in overseas markets as the Mazda 5.
Such agreements between automakers, called "OEM supply contracts," are common in Japan. Mazda currently provides Nissan with a version of its Bongo Van, which Nissan markets as the Vanette. In turn, Nissan sells Mazda a version of its AD/AD Expert, which Mazda relabels as the Familia Van.
Mazda said it would provide Nissan with "a clearly differentiated version of the Premacy," beginning in May, for sale in Japan only.
