WASHINGTON — Mazda is recalling 103,300 2008-'09 Mazda 3 and Mazdaspeed 3 cars in the U.S. to fix windshield wipers that may not work, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The ground terminal of the windshield wiper motor may have been inadvertently bent during assembly," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "If this condition exists, then over time the electrical resistance of the motor circuit may increase up to a point that the windshield wipers would not work. The loss of wiper function in adverse weather could potentially increase the risk of a crash."
The action is part of a global recall of 494,500 Mazda 3s and Mazda Axelas.
Mazda dealers will install an additional ground harness on the wiper motor. The recall is expected to begin on July 15.
Owners can contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500.
Inside Line says: If you own the aforementioned Mazda 3 or Mazdaspeed 3, be aware that a recall is in the works.

I assumed it was the fronts, but could be the rear wiper on all of the recalled cars...thus making it windshield wipers?
