Mazda 2+3x2: 2010 SEMA Show

    Just the Facts:
    • Mazda displays two 2s and two 3s at the SEMA show.
    • Mazda 2 comes in Evil Track and Street versions.
    • Mazda 3 has been transformed into 500-plus-horsepower Redline Time Attack and 250-hp Turbo Sedan variants.

LAS VEGAS — Mazda elected not to gamble at this year's 2010 SEMA Show, bringing a pair of 2s and a pair of 3s to bolster its hand here in Las Vegas.

Mazda's design team created two versions of the Mazda 2, one for the track and one for the street.

The Mazda 2 Evil Track was inspired by the concept of the same name from last year's Los Angeles auto show and features an aero body kit with side skirts, front and rear dams and a carbon fiber deck spoiler, plus H&R race suspension and coil-over kit, MagnaFlow exhaust system, Sparco seats and steering wheel, an AWR roll cage and 15-inch Hoosier racing tires.

The Mazda 2 Street is a bit less adventuresome, with wide-profile Toyo Proxes RA-1 tires mounted on 949Racing 6UL 15-by-9-inch wheels and a light gray metallic paint job with matte graphic accents.

Ever wonder why the Redline Time Attack Super Modified series is one of the fastest competition events in the country? That question may be satisfied once you take a closer look at the Mazda 3 Redline Time Attack, which is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter MZR engine that delivers more than 500 horsepower to the 18-inch Yokohama Advan racing slicks mounted on Volk Racing TE-37 wheels.

The slightly more sedate Mazda 3 Turbo Sedan still makes 250 hp from the same turbocharged MZR engine, as modified by Tri-Point Engineering. A Mazdaspeed 3 provided the front brake rotors and calipers, the dual adjustable coil-overs came from KW and the 19-inch forged alloy wheels wear Bridgestone Potenza RE050A performance tires.

To remind us where the zoom-zoom legend originated 20 years ago, Mazda also is displaying the MX-5 Super20, which boasts a supercharged Cosworth-modified engine, 16-inch Enkei RPF1 wheels wrapped with Toyo Proxes RA-1 tires and wider fenders to accommodate the fatter meats.

BTW- so Mazda.....why the delay in offering a sport version of the "2" ? What about a Mazdaspeed 2? Maybe offer a Mazdaspeed 3 sedan or maybe a  2 door of both? IMHO- a 2 door hatch or 2 door sedan always look sportier than the equivalent 4 door.

"It's funny to see the smaller wheel diameters and actual sidewalls.  It certainly bucks the trend of bigger is better.  Should also help the performance".

It may very well do so. All the doofus's out there who think "bigger is better" and that you need 19 /20/22 on everything dont have a clue as it affects the weight of the wheel /tire together ( much heavier) and affects "unsprung weight" ( how fast the wheel /tire can react to the shocks).  Mom always said "everything in moderation" ..........plus 1 yes..........plus 2 or plus 3 no.  Some of these combo's you see may look"cool" and actually create a vehicle that performs much worse than the original .

I really like the wheel/tire combination and track-ready look. The plus 1,2, etc. does nothing for real world performance. The lighter meatball look has immediate track cred. The new 2, a great base to spawn a B-segment/supermini challenge race series.

Mazda2 Evil by far the best looking offering. Just looking at it makes me want to get one to make it look like that one. Very SICK!

What's with all these moronic names?

I really like these, but they make 15" wheels look like they are 13"....wow!

And were these shot the old PAG/Ford building in Irvine, CA? I remember that garage used to be filled with beautiful Astons, Landrovers, Jags, let alone the modified and vintage cars..
