- DriverVille puts consumers in a virtual world to learn about the new five-door hatchback.

IRVINE, California — The 2011 Mazda 2 is being introduced to younger consumers this week in novel fashion — as the centerpiece of a branded social game on Facebook called DriverVille.
The object of the game is to find "your inner driver," according to Mazda, which adds: "DriverVille puts consumers in a virtual world to learn about and compete with the eco-friendly, fun-to-drive, five-door hatchback in a sweeping social adventure."
The game can be accessed on Mazda's Facebook page. Players can customize their online avatars, play to win virtual currency and weekly sweepstakes prizes, and share their game activities with friends over Facebook's news feed.
Mazda plans to tie in the Facebook promotion to other launch activities, including movies, television, lifestyle Web sites, print advertising, customer relationship marketing, a music tour and the automaker's MazdaUSA.com Web site.

I sat in Mazda 2 sedan and hatch at Indonesia Auto Show this week. Very good feel and fit for a 6'2", 200 lb American. Ford Fiesta has an overwrought interior, like a toy, and rear seat was impossible. Chevy Cruze had a nice design but lots of really cheaped out interior plastic bits inside. Suzuki Swift too small. The other roomy small car is the Toyota Yaris. Will the Mazda 2 be a sportier counterpart to the Yaris? Im looking forward to a drive. I only wish the 2 and Yaris would get a 5sp auto trans like the Honda Fit.
