    Just the Facts:
    • A custom Maybach 62S, featuring a rear center armrest studded with diamonds, was unveiled on Tuesday at a Cannes Film Festival party.
    • The car is a collaboration between Maybach and Swiss jeweler de Grisogono.
    • The two will add more bling to the car before showing it off again at the 2011 Dubai Auto Show in November.

CANNES, France — The glitterati attending the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday got a first look at a custom Maybach 62S featuring a rear center armrest studded with diamonds, in a startling indication that jet-setters may be reverting to pre-recession preening when it comes to luxury rides.

The car is a collaboration between Maybach and Swiss jeweler de Grisogono. The two apparently aren't finished adding bling to the luxury car. Daimler said in a statement that the two are "looking at further options for individualizing the interior with diamonds and other gemstones — on the steering wheel, shift lever or seats."

The German automaker said the car — with even more over-the-top ornamentation — will be shown again at the 2011 Dubai Auto Show in November.

The one-off Maybach 62S debuted at the by-invitation-only de Grisogono party at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Rock in Cap d'Antibes, as jet-setters dined and partied to the music of Will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas.

No word on how much the jewels inflated the sticker price of the Maybach 62S, which starts at $464,750, or how Daimler suggests protecting such a showy investment.

The Maybach 62S reflected the one-upmanship on the 2011 Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Stars seemed intent on outdoing each other, especially with jewelry. One notable example was Cheryl Cole, the X Factor USA judge, who turned heads in a dress topped off with a belt made of hand-blown glass filled with liquid gold.

People who buy Maybachs are retarded.  You can have the exact same car, (S65 AMG) for half the money, if you really want to feel special and look like royalty there is only one car to buy:  ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM.
    End of story.
